Getting an International Perspective on Law

Trading the hills of West Virginia for the hills of Guanajuato, a group of Law students, faculty, and friends spent two weeks in Mexico studying international and comparative law. The College of Law offers two international summer programs; the other, Legal Study in Brazil, starts later this month.

More Than a Summer Job

From doing research for NASA to working at state crime labs, WVU students have landed career-launching opportunities this summer. Biochemistry major Dawn Chamberlain is among those getting first-hand experience conducting research. Through the SURE program, Dawn is working with faculty mentor Dr. Dan Panaccione to analyze genes of a fungus that can cause illness in animals.

Offering Workplace Solutions

Based at WVU for the past 25 years, the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is the nation’s foremost provider of workplace accommodation technical assistance, receiving more than 30,000 calls and 5 million website visits annually. JAN is funded by the Office of Disability Employment Policy, U.S. Department of Labor. JAN directors Anne Hirsch and Lou Orslene hosted Neil Romano (left), U.S. Department of Labor Assistant Secretary, during his recent visit to Morgantown.

Interim President Announced

C. Peter Magrath, senior advisor to the College Board and President Emeritus of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges (NASULGC), will become the interim president of West Virginia University, effective August 1, 2008. A respected national higher education leader who has served as president of four (now five) public universities. Dr. Magrath was selected today (July 8) by members of the WVU Board of Governors.
